A couple of months ago I purchased a new speedometer cable. After installing the cable it seemed to work fine for about a week. Then after a 80+ blast the speedometer stopped working. When I removed the cable the inner cable going into the tranny seemed to be unraveled. I removed the inner cable and didn't notice any other unraveling. Yesterday I ordered a new cable. Before I install the new cable is there something I need to know before breaking another one?

Lube? Would white lithium grease work?

I use liquid graphite. The problem with white lith is after a couple of years it turns into a paste.
