Well we had a unusually warm weekend in Chicago so I fired up my '66 Chevelle and went for a ride. Was running great Friday, Great Saturday, Great Sunday morning until I heard this nasty squeel (metal sounding) and then the dreaded clunking knocking sound. The car would idle until I pushed the clutch in, then it would die. I thought this was strange. After getting a friend to tow me back home I checked a few things. Compression is OK all plugs look good. I drained the oil and was not happy with what I saw. There seemed to be some very fine metal parts in the oil. Some of them looked to be copper or bronze in color. I'm guessing I will be pulling the motor in the next couple of days but was wondering if anyone had any ideas what I might be looking at. I'm guessing spun bearing rod knock...the worst.

Thanks for any ideas.

Sounds like a clutch throwout bearing.

Sounds like a clutch throwout bearing.

That might be one of his problems but it would not explain the debris in the oil as there should be no way for them to penetrate the rear seal. :(
