Well we had a unusually warm weekend in Chicago so I fired up my '66 Chevelle and went for a ride. Was running great Friday, Great Saturday, Great Sunday morning until I heard this nasty squeel (metal sounding) and then the dreaded clunking knocking sound. The car would idle until I pushed the clutch in, then it would die. I thought this was strange. After getting a friend to tow me back home I checked a few things. Compression is OK all plugs look good. I drained the oil and was not happy with what I saw. There seemed to be some very fine metal parts in the oil. Some of them looked to be copper or bronze in color. I'm guessing I will be pulling the motor in the next couple of days but was wondering if anyone had any ideas what I might be looking at. I'm guessing spun bearing rod knock...the worst.
Thanks for any ideas.
