I'd like to get myself a used, original bumper for my '70 and I was wondering how these ship. Truck freight or UPS? Also, does anyone know of anybody that sells used original (El Camino)bumpers? I don't want to go to Bumper Boyz either. Thanks!

The El Camino Store has the bumpers & lots more. I think that they have a web site, but don't have it here. Go to www.chevelles.net/links (http://www.chevelles.net/links) & look for their link. The number is 1-888-685-5987
UPS will ship bumpers.

I've heard of that place before in an ad in Super Chevy but I thought that it was just El Camino's that they sold and not parts. Thanks for enlightening me on that. This'll help me a lot in my resto.

Holy crap! They want $358 US for a reconditioned front bumper for a '66! Ouch!

A bumper is pretty light, so UPS charges would be not too big. I think that the key is to get a nice bumper from somewhere close by. The shipping would be small and if you decided that it was not good , then hiring hit men to take out the vendor would be affordable.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you need something for a daily driver, you may find a nice OK looking bumper from a supplier or private seller. Look in Hemmings for junkyard type places or call Sundells at (704) 434-6759. These bumpers are 30 years old so don't expect to find one that does not need to be rechromed. If you are looking for a show car or restored car bumper, your only real choice is to call a junkyard and find a good "core". It may be banged up, bent, etc. Just as long as there is no rust through or heavy pitting on the surface, a good chrome shop can straighten the bumper, bang out dents and rechrome for about $250. This should be very nice quality.

It sounds like they're readily available. That's good because I know '70 is a unique year for a lot of stuff on El Caminos. I have an original rear bumper, that is bent in (not smashed)across 1/2 of the bumper(scrapes the tailgate when its opened, and is bent out behind where the license plate would mount (looks like something caught it under there and pulled the car) as well as a few other dents and dings.

Anyone know of anybody that could straighten and rechrome this mess, here in the northeast? If there's no one reputable around here, I'll no problem shipping it elsewhere.

Shawn,
The 70 El Camino and 70 Monte Carlo use the same front bumper. That may give you more outlets to find one.

I just send my rear bumper off to H & R Plating in OH. Phone 800 257-0123. They did my bent front bumper that I bought as a core for replating. They did a pretty nice job. They call their chrome "show chrome". What this means is 3 part plating process. I think it is copper, nickle, chrome. Copper smoothes the surface, nickle provides basic color and chrome (very thin) provides beauty and protection. $260 to straighten and rechrome. I know repos are cheaper, but this is an original restored to better than new. Lifetime warrantee against peeling or rust. Shipping was $15. Bumpers are very light and UPS charges by weight. Just wrap the bumper in cardboard, tape you name, address and phone number to the bumper and send it on in.
