I've lost that spring thing that you clip your ancient (inline) timing light to. It connects the spark plug to the secondary wires leaving a gap for the timing light clip. Anyone know where I can buy another?
All the parts stores sell inductive timing lights. I've got two working (non-inductive) timing lights, but only had one spring-thingy. Is there a clever alternative to this spring? Thanks.

You could try a good hardware store, if one still exists in your area, bring a old plug and hopefully find a spring that will work.

Mine uses a short plug wire minus the boot.

Hate to say it, but stop by a F*rd dealership, or maybe your local repair shop and ask if they've replaced any "coil packs" on the 5.4 Triton V8's recently, and could you dig in the trashcan.
They connect to the plugs with a 5" long "spring thingie", inside a nice rubber boot (that you could cut an access window into for your alligator clip). The coil pack comes with a replacement boot/spring assy, so the boot & spring isn't re-used on the new coil.

I resurrected this thread to show a simple solution if anyone else should lose their spring. The F*rd "coil packs" idea is a good alternative, but these are 2-for-97 Cents at Lowes. I had to widen one end slightly to get it to engage the spark plug end.
