My emergency brake peddel on my 72 chevelle with 4 wheel drum brakes is locked up solid. I can't push it in no matter how hard I try. The brakes work fine and all of the cables on the underside look fine. The cables are tight but not really tight. I can pull the cable by hand and feel it engaging the brakes. Is there a common jamming problem with the peddel assembly?

Did you check the front cable by pulling it from inside the vehicle, or just the rear cables? Usually it's the front cable seized that causes that. I've not seen a pedal assembly get stuck before it gets worn out (ratchet), but anything is possible on something this old. If it is the pedal assembly itself, perhaps some rust penetrant/lubricant might work. I'd remove it first for that though.

I didn't check the front cable from inside the vehicle. Maybe it's stuck where it goes through the floor. I'll check it out.

Wait, Wait, Wait!!!
Disconnect the "Pedal Cable" from the "U" cable (by the transmission) at the adjuster BEFORE doing any stomping on the E-brake pedal!
One good stomp after lubricating the cable, and you might not be going anywhere for awhile, and you'll be COMMITTED to fixing the pedal! ;)
A little advise from someone in rust country:
Liberally spray both ends of the cable and the ratchet mechanism with the penetrant of choice. Let soak for a day or two. Then try and get one "click" out of the pedal - just one (or two) clicks. Release.... Cable didn't spring back, did it? Put a strong rubber band or light bungee on the release handle and use a pliers/vise-grip on the cable lug (under the car) and pull.
See-Saw between the pedal and vise-grip, gradually getting more "clicks". Hose & wipe down the cable as more is exposed. Eventually you should be able to get full travel.

I figured it out. The peddle itself was stuck. The pin that holds the release lever in was missing the cotter pin that keeps it in place and it was jamming the peddle. Thanks for all of the help.
