Just got home from setting up for tomorrow's big Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. What a great time for the kids (and some of us big kids!). You guys should see our track. It is made of solid oak and aluminum and is sixty feet long (yes 60, that isn't a typo) will full photo-eye start and finish lines with digital display for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place. It even connects to a laptop and times the cars down the the 1,000th of a second! Nicer than some real race tracks I've been to! I feel lucky to be involved (and soon leading as Cubmaster) this group of nearly 70 boys. It looks like it will be a long day tomorrow but another set of great memories for the boys (and their parents).

That's great to hear. Our technology wasn't that advanced back in my day as Cub Scout.

Going tomorrow also.
Actually running in the finals at a local mall.
My son is so excited. My sons car won best design, didn't do too
well in the races. Finished 5th overall. I don't think we would have won best
design if not for the yellow submarine coming in first in the races. The sub should have won best design too but troop leaders were trying to spread out the ribbons.
We'll have some fun tomorrow.

My son just bridged out to "Boy Scouts" last weekend. No more Pinewoods for us
We had 5 great seasons in 'Cubs, and the Pinewood was usually the high-point of the year. He's got two trophies on his shelf. In '03 we took 1st place  , and in '04 got "Most Creative". He's the guy with the the A1 Steak Sauce special...
These are smiles and memories that will never go away. Take a LOT of pictures, and SAVE their cars. My Mom had the foresight to stash my Cub Scout stuff in a box once I'd moved on to Boy Scouts & other stuff. After I got re-involved with my own son she gave me a cardboard box - 30 years later. In it was my uniform, patches, medals, trophies, and my old Pinewood cars!

Pinewood Derbys are awesome with today's technology. The fastest car in my family is always the one my wife designs and builds!!
