i have been thinking. i want to back half a 67 chevelle chassis, but i dont want to use a 4 link or other type of suspension. i want to keep the stock style suspension just eliminate all the weak half ass OEM frame features. springs and shocks would be coil over so that massive upper spring perch is gone. that abomination of sheet metal that is the forward upper control arm mount will be eliminated and remade using a section of 2x4 box tubing. there will be a droped cross member or a member with a driveshaft loop connecting the two frame rails and the forward control arm mounts will be incorperated into it. the rear section of the frame rails will be replaced with 2x4 formed steel box tube. also thinking of adding a center spine that will tie together the forward and rear frame sections and take some stress of the OEM side rails. everything will be made from 2x4, 2x3, and round tube. bascially i want to build and oem based chassis that is almost as strong as a custom tube or boxed chassis like and alston or other wise. also what adjustability should i build into the control arm mounts? it would be easy to provide several different mount options aside from stock to allow more suspension tuning and control instant center. has anyone done anything like this?
