: New Chamois Is Pretty Bad.

Bought a new Chamois at a discount store. Paid $11.95. Made in Pakistan and doesn't work very well. Bunches up in your hand when you wipe the water off. Yuk! Does anybody make a decent Chamois? I looked in Eastwood, but didn't see any.
Thanks, John

Have you ever tried a water blade? I always used a deer chamios (spelling??) before, but never was impressed with the results. Now I use a water blade and a cotton towel to clean up what it doesn't catch. It is such soft rubber (they say surgical quality) that it doesn' leave any scratches or marks (and I can tell you from experience it doesn't).

The "Absorber" is what I use, can be found in most chain parts stores.

Water blade!
Definately will NOT scratch the paint.
No buff marks or swirls or lines.
and no stinking water spots.

I had a water blade- it didn't scratch my paint- but it did put long streak marks on it- didn't like it.

I got an absorber- love it...

I'm a fan of the absober, I was a tried and true terry cloth towel guy for drying the car until I got soaked this past June at the All-GM Nationals. It rained all day friday and most of the day Saturday. Anyways, I bought an abosber and the salesman showed me how to use it (you can use it a bunch of differnt ways, he showed me to lay it flat on the panel that I want to dry and pull it towards me, he said it can also be used to soak up water by bunching it up and dabbing it) Anyways, I got one and my dad got one for his Camaro. I dried my El Camino in about 1/3 the time and the best part was I didn't have all the extra wet towels around, it was great. Same goes for his Camaro. I'm a fan! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Another vote for the Absorber. All I've used for 10 years. That's probably cause I'm lazy... http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I have a water blade and I use it on my truck and the wife's car just after washing to get the standing water off. But I'm afraid to use it on the Chevelle after a rain. Usually there is some dust, etc., on the paint when it rains and I'm afraid the blade will drag some grit across it. The clearcoat on the Chevelle seems to be so easy to scratch. I guess from not being baked on or maybe just the brand of paint (urethane with hardener). Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I'll stick to towels and absorber on anything that doesn't have factory paint.

yes, your worries are correct...y ou can f#ck up your paint really bad with a water balde with just one tiny pebble that might be laying on the hood, roof, etc... The ONLY way i'd EVEr use it is after i just washed the car, i'd never use it to dry rain water, etc... Come to think of it, i wouldnt use it period... to risky... Yeah 99 times out of 100 it works great, but wait til you drag a 2 foot scratch into your hood... As far as the absorber goes, it works ok, but if you really want a good synthetic chamois, get a water sprite... I'm not sure if you can get them in stores (doesn't it seem like the best stuff never comes from wal mart?) but i got my first one from a guy who sells detailing products to the dealer i used to work for, and i just got one in carlsile (also from a detailing place) If you ever see one, get it... it just keeps getting better the more you use it. Doesnt "stick" like an absorber, and sucks up a ton more water. If i get ambitious, i'll see if there is an address on the package, and post it on here.

I agree with Joey B. The Water Blade does not scratch but the grit that you inevitably drag with it does! The Water Sprite is also the best chammy of any kind that I've ever used. I've been using them for over 20 years now and wouldn't consider anything else.
