Can you sand blast a rear to remov rust? Or should you use something else besides sand? Will it hurt the seals and bearings? Thanks.

I do it all the time. I don't actually use sand, but I do use AlOx media. I like to leave the cover on. I will hit the backing plates from the backside but never the axle side. I save that cleanup for my cordless drill/wire wheel.

if your talking about sand blasting an assembled rear you dont plan on rebuilding i would not get a sand blaster nearit. i learned the hard way that no matter how well you think the seals will keep out sand or how well you taped it up, the high pressure dust and grit gets every whare. there are vents and places it can go no matter what media you use. good old wire brush, gassoline, then soap and water will be the safer rout.
