OK, this is slightly off-topic, this is for my '76 Suburban, but I have been told this is the best forum for Big Block Chevy tech from my Chevelle (and Corvette) buddies.
I am building a new 454 for my suburban. I was planning to go roller cam, but started running cams through Desktop Dyno and there are some flat tappet hydraulic cams that look really good, especially considering the price. This will be a daily driver, 454, 1800ish stall TH400, headers, RPM intake, MSD, Speed Demon carb. Currently running XE256 cam, which runs out of breath around 4500 RPM, but not too bad.
I have a Comp Magnum 280 (230/230 adv, .520/.520 lift) available at no cost. This makes more peak torque and HP than the 256 and some of the roller cams I looked at, and has low enough peaks that I think this would work well with the heavy Suburban.
Can any of you comment on this cam in a 454 on the street? Idle, off idle manners, etc?
Thanks,
Jeff
