Black unless Canadian built

Thanks for the quick reply. It is Canadian built, so body color?

Does this apply to all years? My 69 is Canadian built, but I cannot find any evidence that the firewall was body color.

I honestly don't know when the body-coloured firewall stopped. I know the 68s had them, but it is very possible that after that the practice was phased out. With each passing year there were more and more cars built on both sides of the border for the other side.
I'm curious to see what other people's observations are on this as well.

To the best of my knowledge, all Canadian cars, well into the 70's had body coloured firewall & transmission tunnel's. This is a topic that has been discussed a few times and one of my friends & an auto restorer (by proffesion) used to work at the Fisher plant in Oshawa till 77 or so and here is some of what he has related to me. In the mid 70's the assembly process was changed to run similar to the US production lines so the paint coverage changed. Also depending on the plant and assy line, there were some variations. Canadian production lines were overhauled a lot in that time.

Recollections & history: The Fisher body plant in Oshawa was a seperate facility and the entire main body was assembled in there and sent across to the chassis side. Fisher painted the complete shell one colour (with the exception of 2 tones). This included the firewall, trans tunnel, inner wheel wells (rear) etc... The floorpan was primed and the "generous" overspray covered the majority of it. Just prior to the shell being sent over, they very quickly sprayed lower exposed areas for coverage. Once the body was on the chassis it got more coverage with chassis paint and basic rust proofing and that was pretty much it.

Hope it helped answer the questions.

Thought I would give my .02.....

My 69 had a black firewall when I bought it in 91. I found no body color paint under anything other than the exterior panels.

Oh yeah, mine is Canadian built...
