I installed a set of the QA1 shocks over the weekend and I put them on the way the stock ones were mounted, with the T-bar below the lower control arm. I happened to re-read the instructions and it suggests putting it through the control arm and have it rest on it.
Does anyone know if this makes a difference. They were such a pain to put on, with all the grinding to get the larger shocks through the hole, and trying to get the nuts on the bolts, that I don't really want to do this again.
Am I safe in leaving it?
I love the new shocks by the way
Thanks

Grinding to get the shocks through the hole??
And since the force exerted on the spring is using that t-bar for support, I think I'd want to have it above the LCA. Now you're just relying on the strength of 2 grade 5 bolts to keep your front suspension in place, instead of that 1/4" thick aluminum t-bar and your LCA.

Yeah those QA1 shocks are much bigger than the stock ones. They also have a knob for adjustmant on the side. The hole has to be extended to get it to fit. I guess I could have disassembled the control and spring and put it in that way.

WOAH WOAH WOAH
I just put the QA1 Coilovers on my 66 El Camino and you don't have to do any grinding of any kind!
That t-bar should be on top of the lower control arm where the nut clips used to be, you have to push those off.
Please fix this before you drive the car, that is very unsafe.
E-mail me at unokiddd@hotmail.com if you have more questions.

These aren't the coil overs, just the shocks. And no, they don't fit though the hole in the bottom of the control arm, they have to be massaged in, since they are much thicker than stock.
I'll fix the mount tomorrw, thanks.
