Hello,
I just finished my 1971 chevelle (all new sheetmetal) My question is that it has a small block v8 and I would really like to get chevys 572 big block crate motor, how do I know where to put big block motor mounts on a small block car? Any help would be great Thanks, Mike

They are the same. It was the earlier cars that were different.

That's right. I've swapped back and forth with no problems.

Same thing here....converted from 350 sbc to 402 bbc.....motor mounts stayed the same....didn't have to change anything.

PROVIDED the frame brackets are for a 350-454. The 307 frame brackets are different. The 307 frame brackets are TALLER and WIDER than the 350-454 brackets. This is because the 307 rubber engine mounts (that go between the block and frame brackets) are thinner and do not have the interlocking feature. If your 71 originally had a 350, then it should have the correct frame brackets for any BB.
An additional note, are you aware that the 572 is a tall block?

I put a 454 in mine and it originally had a 307. All we had to do was but a set of big block motor mounts and the mounts used the same holes as the 307 so they bolt right in.

I just put my 454 in the 66 El Co the other day and used the old Moroso small block mounts. Perfect fit. One of the only things that worked between the two. Oh--the dist, the oil filter adapter, the fuel pump pushrod.

The 572 is a tall deck block which will install easily into your 71 Chevelle.Hood clearance will be an issue due to the tall deck block and the headers are a tight fit with the tubes on cylinders 3 and 5.In order to fit the headers for clearance to the steering shaft you have to indent the tubes on 3 and 5.Also the oil pan that comes on the 572 is a truck pan and will have to be replaced prior to installation in your chevelle.I installed the 572/720 in my 70 Chevelle last year.Good Luck.
