: floor pan under rear seat ('66)
EddieF Jun 1st, 03, 9:21 PM National Parts Depot has in their catalog a floor pan (2 piece) for under the rear seat. The photo is too dark to see for sure where it starts and ends, does anyone know? I mean, does it go so far back that the seat belts will bolt into this piece, and does it go so far forward that it includes the downslope to the rear floor where your feet go?
Also, that crossmember that goes across the forward edge of the back seat, is that possibly what they're calling "floor pan brace, middle, full length?" There are no pictures of that piece in the catalog. There is one 'middle' and one 'front.'
Anyone with experience with these who can help, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
Ed.
EddieF Jun 2nd, 03, 10:19 AM Anyone?
EddieF Jun 2nd, 03, 10:57 AM Nevermind. Finally got someone at NPD to explain/describe what they had. Thanks anyway. Ed.
Randy Mosier Jun 2nd, 03, 2:11 PM Weekends are a bit slow here, as is Monday morning. Mine is a one piece, and it's for a 68 - 72. But it goes all the way to forward edge of the trunk at the aft side, and to the forward lip of the cross brace on the front. The sides could easily fit into the original locations between the rocker and quarter supports, if I decide to dig out all the spot welds and install it the same way the factory did.
EddieF Jun 2nd, 03, 2:23 PM The picture in the catalog pretty clearly shows the angled piece on the aft end where the seat belt bolts go in. But I was unsure about the forward edge, if it included the downward piece on the forward edge of that crossmember. I think it does, now, after talking to NPD, but I was just hoping someone had bought one. Also, I believe it's a brand new part for NPD, not sure if others have carried it in the past or not. Thanks. Ed.
jc67 Jun 6th, 03, 12:53 AM ED,
I have just installed that same pan in my 67 ss. It folds just in to the trunk area. It ends up front about center the floor pan brace. I will warn you that it doesnt fit real well around the rear inner wheel well, it lacks about 1" fitting. I had to refabricate a piece to fill the gap because I had already removed the old pan in that area. (a mistake that I learned a great deal from.) It is a little tricky to get it to fit under the quarter window because there are three layers of metal that meet there and are hard to seperate. these are just my experiences and my .02 so let us know how it turns out.
Good Luck
Jamie

EddieF Jun 6th, 03, 3:39 PM Thank you Jamie. You didn't happen to document that procedure with photos, did you?
Ed.
72SS454Chevelle Jun 6th, 03, 4:01 PM I did some photos on my website of the removal but the installation I just powered through it and didnt have much till I was installing the brackets.
EddieF Jun 6th, 03, 4:06 PM Thanks. Hey Deon, how is that Eastwood high temp header paint working out for you? Did you just sandblast and put that stuff on, and is it holding up to heat okay?
(sorry to get off topic here)
Ed.
72SS454Chevelle Jun 6th, 03, 5:27 PM well as they are sitting in the trunk waiting for me to finish some other projects to get them on the engine I would have to say yes it's holding up great. :D I will let you know when I run the thing. I just used paint stripper to take off the factory coating then blasted the rusty patches of surface rust on the headers then applied the coating. I can say it eats plastic so its pretty volatile and coated pretty easy.
