sevt_chevelle Jan 13th, 05, 11:31 PM Theres a few pics of current project at work.
Its a 03 Ford F150 supercrew, getting fully stripped to metal :(
The truck was repainted three times AT THE FACTORY  You can only guess the reason behind the stripping

Zman Jan 14th, 05, 3:11 AM Boy does that bring back some bad memories!
The at shop I worked in back in the early 90's, we did a ton of warranty work for one of the GM dealerships. That's when GM had all the peelers!
Also, that was when all the "Custom" painted Suburbans were popular. It was a 10-12 hr job from sealer to clear with all of the multi colored, faded stripes.
We'd usually send them out to be Media blasted, clean them up with the DA, then off to the booth.
We were using Dupont at the time...2 coats of Vari-prime, a coat of sealer, then top coat.
LeoP Jan 14th, 05, 9:25 AM It looks like a flame job gone bad. I watched Charlie paint that Mustang on American Hot Rod and until then, I never realized how much work goes into just painting a car.
baddbob71 Jan 14th, 05, 9:34 AM Been there myself a few times, I worked at a Ford dealership during the early 90's when peelers were happening big time. The shop pumped out about 6 per week for approximately three years. We did have a group of youngsters working that did most of the stripping by hand with razorblades and Da sanders, I stayed on collision work mostly but did do a few here and there. Media blasting was not available in this area at the time and Ford didn't pay much. At first we were alowed to replace all of the body side mouldings but then that changed to an R&I operation later. GM went through similar problems at about the same time.
DaDon Jan 14th, 05, 2:10 PM That's why it takes some of us years to get our cars to the paint stage. graemlins/clonk.gif There were a number of times I thought I'd give up on it before it had color on it. Not something I ever want to do again.
sevt_chevelle Jan 14th, 05, 8:06 PM Theres a media blaster just down the road from what I hear, but it was cheaper to pay me to strip it by hand then send it out.
Am guessing that it will be 10-15hr that I get.
I got to experience peelers from Chrysler but we sent them out for blasting. Used a 7in air grinder with 150 grit, did 1 fender and 2 doors in about an hour but the roof took a day and half graemlins/sad.gif
MalibuJerry350 Jan 14th, 05, 8:12 PM And then there's the idiots like me who take a 3 week vacation and strip, perform the body work, fill, sand, prime, sand and paint!! Of course, 12 to 15 hour days were the norm! This during the summer of 1999.
obseSSed Jan 17th, 05, 2:32 PM I found that vacation is not the time to do something like that. Screws up your whole year, you need a break now and then!!!
