This may seem like a stupied question but where does the oil sending unit go on a 454? I am in the middle of a SB to BB swap. The oil sending unit on the SB was located next to the distrubutor. There is no hole to screw the sending unit into in this location on the BB. (the vehicle is a 1970 SS El Camino which was originally equiped with a 396. One of the past owners swapped in a 400 SB (light / not a gauge)). One other piece of information. This is a mark IV block.

I believe it is just above the oil filter housing area,

There are two plugs in the block right above the oil filter. I thought they were for a remote filter application? The plugs are 1/2 plug and the threads on the sending unit are 3/8. I do want to run a gauge also so I was intending to put a tee in so I could have both (light and gauge)

The one hole in the center with the raised boss is the the one for oil pressure. The hole to the right of that is for the clutch linkage bell-crank assy. You can get some reducers to do want you want to do. Neat idea!

Run a 'T' off the block, and use reducers as mentioned from there..........make sure your sender unit, plumbing and wire are clear of the exhaust.

2068Here is the oil pressure set up on my car...402/350HP and a 854 Hi-nickal block(this is the same block used for the 454).This is the way that the Assy manuel says it was done at the factory.A brass block was installed in the 1/2 hole (NPT) and the 1/4-npt oil sender was installed on the brass block....a 3/8-NC (were the allen bolt is) and the other flat plug is for the remote oil cooler was mounted.

You can always do what I did: Use the pipe plug boss above the oil filter for your oil pressure fitting, and run that hose into the back of the gauge. Instead of attaching directly to the gauge, get a 1/8" pipe T fitting, run the hose to that first, use your electrical sending unit on the other side of the T, and then the last part of the T will thread into your gauge. Of course use thread tape and tighten securely! Have used this on circle track cars for years without any troubles!!
