Yeah, I am replacing the area around my rear glass and I noticed that my deck panel has no studs to hold my trim clips down. Whats the best way to fix that. Screws? Rivits?

Most autobody supply places carry a 4 x 1/2" screw in stud.I just drill a small pilot hole ,dab some sealant on the threads and screw them in where needed. :D

When I used the screw in studs, the threads were not long enough to make the clips tight. I ended up using small #4x3/8" philips head screws from the hardware store.

My body shop used some sort of tool that actually welds on new "tits" for the trim. I think I'd rather have those than the screw-in type. Turned out very nice.

Maybe your body shop will buy the tool if you insist on doing it that way

They were welded on with a CD (capacitor discharge) welder. Many body shops use them to weld pins on a damaged body panel to pull out the dents. The same equipment can be used; but it would use a different chuck in the gun. Maybe you can call around to body shops to find someone with the correct set-up.
I agree, that's a better way to go....with screws, there's always a chance for future rust.

I had a leak in the wall of my house. Turned out to be a PVC drain pipe that had been accidentally screwed into when the kitchen cabinets had been installed. After about 4 years, the screw rusted enough that it started leaking. We can't underestimate the power of rust!!
