Hope you guys can help. My Velle will start in any gear and that's no good. I have a 66 396SS Clone. The car was originally an auto with a column shift the neutral safety switch is still mounted on the column with no harness running to it. At some point the previous owner converted it to an auto floor shift with what looks like a 67 or 68 center console with staple shifter this also has what looks like a neutral safety switch attached at the base of the shifter with no harness running to it. I know I need to run a harness or jumper but which switch do I use? Also were do I tie the harness into, does it go into the main harness under the dash?
The NSS needs to break the purple & purple with white stripe circuit.
Are those two wires still on the NNS on the column?

Dean I found the purple and purple&white connected together. They were next to a double green going into a connector. Nothing is running to anything they were just tucked up under the dash. The two purples were twisted together with 20 year old duct tape.
You need to seperate them and run both wires to the NSS in the console.
smaller greens (or green and yellow?) are the backup light switch.

Dean thank you very much. I appreciate you time. I'm new to the world of Chevelles but am enjoying the heck out of it. If you have time how did you post the pic of your car do you have to be a team member?
Paid members can have their own personal showroom to upload to but there are lots of different ways to post pictures.
One of the easiest ways I think is to upload them at

Then highlight and copy the "Hotlink for forums (1)" and paste it into your post.

You can go to the Test Drive forum and try it out there
Good luck

Dean thanks man. My plan is to figure out what year NSS I have in my console then buy a console harness and tie into the puple and purple & white wires. Since my purple wires have been cut I think I need to buy a nss jumper so I can splice together the connector onto my old cut wires. If my console NSS is say from a 1968 and my old wires are stock from 66 will I have a problem?
