69 Camaro..not a Chevelle but many here know this car, so here`s what we did this week:

We put a set of Hoosier 30.0 x 10.50 x 15 radial slicks on this week.

We went to our regular TNT last night.. Track conditions were just absolutely HORRIBLE!.

Another track on the west coast had a big show going on and all the serious bracket racers were over there.

So Moroso decided not to bother prepping the track.
No VHT was put down at all... DRY AS POWDER!

Put 20 lbs in the tires as a starting point and did a nice long (recomended) burnout.
Here`s where the radial tire really showed what it`s capable of when the track is poor..60' was a sorry 1.69 ET ran a 10.54

Dropped the pressure to 18 lbs..spun hard again...1.57 ET

Dropped the pressure to 15 lbs (not my idea btw)..not much in provement..tried to drive it out like a street tire..no go.

In the mean time 300 ricer/sportsman cars are making rounds too, all bad!

Finally, as a favor to me the starter rolled out the hand sprayer and misted the starting line for us.

Hazed the tires very lightly, just a whisper of smoke.

This time it hooked a little better here`s the run :

60'....1.39 ET
330.... 4.08
1/8....6.36 ET @ 107.21 MPH New best
1000.... 8.35
1/4....10.03 ET @ 133.94 MPH New best

Goes to show just how sensitive these radial slicks can be with less than ideal track conditions.

Daytime temps where 84 degrees, by the time we ran temps where 75-77 degrees.. lots of humidity and low pressure...already getting warm here.

Hope we can catch a cold front before it really really warms up

No 9 sec time slip yet, but we`re getting closer

You're awfully close to that nine second timeslip Steve. Congratulations on the new best. Thats a hard threshold to cross over as my sons car hung there for several race days with the 481" motor in it.

I agree Harold...we`re looking for some better weather and some front end tuneing.

Steve,
True, but the car was finicky to track conditions before hand, i think you will like them even more as you fine tune the pressure and race on a better surface, and play around with the suspension.

Some of The videos i took of ed's car were on a TNT night at etown after 300 ricers, and a cold track, dead hooking and wheelstanding on radials.

15lbs is not nearly enough pressure with the radial slicks, 17lbs is the minimum, and most cars i race with are using 19-22lbs

I dont know who recommended the long burnout, but through my experience nothing more then a 3-4 second burnout, making certain to power-out of the burnout has been successful.

Brian..this track is notorious for lousy track prep even though they obviously can afford to do it right.
They go through track managers like you wouldn`t believe.

Yes, it`s true the car can be a little fussy;
lots of torque with a relatively small tire...But tweaking here and there as we go is part of the "fun factor".

What would you come up with for DA ?..just curious.
Temp was 75-77 degrees, humidity was 78 %, pressure was around 29.90, track elevation is 23 Ft

AMEN! Steve, how does this compare to your runs with the ET radials??? Did you notice the difference with tire weight?

Congrats on the new bests!!

John..we did run a 10.11 ET on the 275-60 ET radials but the motor was going over 7000 + RPM ! Too much IMO for a Hyd roller.

That pass btw was just for fun, after we put the car back together in street trim to drive back home we just got back in line and voila...a 1.44 Et 60' with the aforementioned ET!
We were pleasantly surprised :)

The ET street radials are much heavier than the Hoosier radial slicks.

And thanks

Steve,
You 're confirming exactly what I've found running the Hoosier radials...same size slick, in fact.
BTW, Tire pressuse of 20 lbs works best for me...on a 10" wide wheel.

Bill...I`m going to have him put more pressure in those slicks, he let them down to 15 lbs looking for traction, the wrong direction IMO.

We have psuedo track rental day this Friday I`ll have some video when done.
If we can get better traction we`ll be there.

I dont calculate DA, Ed uses a weather station, and since we always race with the same group of bracket racers, i record his weather information and/or dial off my friends cars.

Steve,

Nice run!

DA ~ 1500 ft.

Brian makes sense to me I`d the same.
