ok guys & girls, I've finally aquired all the nos pieces for installing a vinyl roof on my car. My question is this, is there anything like a template or diagram to show where to drill  holes to install the trim even though this will be done by a upholstrey place. Another question is this, are they going to have to remove the headliner for this ? Thanks in advance

I've done the vinyl top install on 2 different 68's, one was a previous V-top and the other wasn't. On the prior V-top, the old mounting holes were filled, I just located them from inside and drilled a pilot hole outward, then opened to proper size for the clip retainers being used from outside. If you can examine a V-top car you will get a sense where those holes belong. On the one that never had a V-top, I installed the stainless retainers at the windows first, then using tape positioned the side trim in the approximate position. I had some old very crusty side corner pieces so I cut off the studs and positioned everything with tape, marked outlines of the trim once satisfied with locations, and then measured and marked for the corner piece mounting holes, using the good pieces with studs as a guide for location. Drilled those and moved to the rear deck piece, drilled those holes as well, enough for clips with access through the trunk area. If you look from underneath in the trunk, you will see those access points, just make a witness mark and drill in the center of the trim piece outline at those points. There is no reason to remove the headliner. Best advice, go slow, temporary fix the trim in place with clear packing tape for alignment and adjustment, once positioned properly mark an outline, measure to the center of where the trim would be at the proper spot, cross your fingers, and drill a hole. Or, ask the trim shop that is installing your top to also install the trim, many have done this before and have the ability.
