I have a 69 chevelle that overall is pretty solid but my rear qaurters are starting to show that evil that all mississippi cars seem to get.
I was wondering what was the best way to approach and take care of the rust. The car has a decent paint job but im gonna repaint anyways later this summer. I just need some help and suggestions on how to take the paint off and seek out all my rust problem areas..

Thanks for any help

well what im doing is sanding to bare metal in areas of the rust. (fender bottoms and lower rear 1/4 areas). and then im gonna cut out whats bad and weld new metal in or buy patch panels and replace. sandblaster is good in small areas, wouldnt use on big areas cuz it would cause warping. fun, fun, fun, fun !!!

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. 69 SS from Illinois. Wheel well lips are rusted out, behind all four tires, trunk, below rear window from the vinyl top... yeck!! I just ordered 1/4 panel patches, trunk floor kit, new GM front fender. Now I just have to woork on it when I get the parts... Fun, Fun, Fun!!!

Oh, and I'm using chemical stripper to go to bare metal and start fresh. After what I found under the paint when I bought it, I'm not taking any chances. This stripper works great, then I'm da'ing with 120 after washing all the stuff off. Working great so far.

What chemicasl stripper are you using?
If you don't buy patch panels what type of metal do you weld in?
