....I bought my Chevelle with a newer paint job. However someone decided to take some of the orange peel out of it so they sanded the car with 1500 grit sand paper.

The guy I bought the car from said some rubbing compound will take the sanding marks (scratches) out, but what grit do I use?

Hey Dawg, graemlins/waving.gif
No offence intended...but you might want to consider having a pro do the buffing for you..there are a lot of variables involved, and if you don't know what you're doing, you can cause a lot of damage in a hurry.
The longer the paint has cured, the harder it's going to be to buff.
Some other things to consider are..
What type of paint is it"
Is it BC/CC?
What Brand?
How much paint is on it?
How old is the paint?
How much was it sanded?
Do you have a GOOD VARIABLE speed buffer?
There are a ton of different coumpounds, glazes, and buffing pads on the market. Some guys use wool pads, some use the foam pads, some use both.
Unless you have some experience, I'm not so sure you want to attempt it..

You do have three options
A. spend the money and have someone experienced buff and glaze it out.
B. try it yourself and spend money on buffer pads compounds ect, and hope for the best knowing you pay for a burn through.
C.Just be a man and rub by hand graemlins/sad.gif proud of the fact it is a hand rubbed finish.
I agree with ZMAN, spend the coin and have a shop buff it out.

Thanx. Well the guy I bought it from (before I bought it) said you could use rubbing compound, then proceeded to do a demo for me. His demo was put some compound on a rag and rub it on, then turn the rag over and buff it back out. Whatever he did made it come out good!

Now I'm trying to get ahold of the guy to get his techniques and see what compound he used but damn now I can't ever get ahold of him.
