I had a like NEW compressor given to me, the only problem is the motor is very slow.
nfact it will stop after a few seconds of running.
I am sure if I didnt switch it off it would pop the breaker.
I am thinking of having the motor rebuilt, but I figure I may as well price a new one.
If anyone knowes of a web site for there parts that would be helpfull.
It's a 220v single phase motor made by GE.
The compressor is a 7.5 hp 60 gal. tank.
Any help will be appreciated.

Your problem sounds like the centrifical switch isn't engaging. This can happen if you are running it on a cord or outlet that can't handle the current. You should hear the centrifical switch kick in with a "click" about a second after the motor starts turning. If you hear it click, then the contacts may be dirty, and can be cleaned with a light sanding. If it never kicks in, and your sure the outlet/line is "stiff" enough, it could be the capacitors that are mounted on the outside of the motor case are bad. You can usually get them at Graingers. They might have the motor there as well, if you just don't want to mess with it. www.grainger.com (http://www.grainger.com)

Trying to run the motor without it's second stage kicking in will cause the motor to shut down after a few seconds, as there is the safety built in as to not allow the motor to run in this start-up phase too long.

Thak Gene:
I was wrong it's a 6.5 HP model.
I know the outlet is good because it's the one for our dryer.
When I tried to run the motor it did click, but it ran very slow and would have stoped if I hadnt turned it off.
I know it has been run for extreemly long pieriods in a factory type inviroment.
I was told the motor and mabe the compressor was shot.
But it looks new so I brought it home in hopes of getting it going.
There is no electrical (burn)smell and the compressor has oil in it, and the short time it ran today it did pump air.
So I think if I get the motor going then I can work on the rest?
Thanks for any help
