Howdy again. I finally picked up my 67 SS clone, 454 TH400, and I absolutely love it! The guy had not quite finished building this car and it has a few things yet to be done which I didn't mind doing as I am an experienced wrench. This car was originally a 327 Malibu automatic A/C, PS, PB car (I believe) and it's apparent that the front springs are still those of a small block. The car sits pretty decent and level, but when you're driving it has a lot of body roll and has way too much give in dips. The car has what look to be new Chevy rally's on it and 15 inch 225 wide tires. The drivers side seems to be a bit softer than the passenger, and I noticed that on big dips the drivers front tire rubs ever so slightly on the inside of the fender well. I measured the backspacing of the rims which look to be 4.5 inches. Passenger tire doesn't rub at all apparently. Car has absolutely no signs of any accident ever and drives as straight as an arrow. The frame is perfect.

I would like the car to have the stock ride height and ride of a stock 67 SS396 car as I plan to drive this car somewhere in the 5K per year range. What springs do you guys recommend for me on the front? What do you think about the rubbing? I saw a thread a while back that listed the GM numbers, but couldn't find it again. And then I read a more recent thread that said you couldn't get the springs from GM anymore. So any help would be appreciated.

After I solve this problem, I'll tap into ya on my ongoing oil leak investigation!

Thanks a bunch! T-bone

After some more research with the Advanced Search feature, I was able to find some more information. I went ahead and ordered Summits Moog 5244's and Edelbrock shocks. I also wanted to upgrade the factory 7/8" sway bar, so I got the Hotchkiss 1-3/8" front sway bar while I was ordering. I will set the rear up to my liking next. Anybody forsee any problems with this combination so far? Any input is welcome.

Thanks,

T-bone

T-Bone,

Your front tires look a little too tall. That might be causing the rubbing in the fender well.

:D

Motorhead62,

Thanks for the response. This is the first Chevelle I have owned and I appreciate your input. The tires on it are 225 75R 15's. They are new, but cheap, and I had planned on replacing them anyway down the line. The guy just wanted new rubber on the car as I drove it quite a ways to get it home. I Was measuring last night, and the rally's look to be 8" wide rims with 4.5" back spacing. It seems from my research here that those wheels may be pushing it. Would a shorter tire along with my suspension mods end up solving my problem? I'm not dead set on the Rally's. Eventually, I'll probably go with some Torque Thrust D's. those are my favorites and possibly a 5" backspacing, but one step at a time right now $. What tire size is recommended for these 8" Rally's? Thanks to anyone who takes time to respond.
