I had planned on puting the rims on a turntable to be abe to rotate the rim spraying down at some reasonable angle or should I set them up on the rim and spray left to right.

I haven't used a spray gun for a long long time more years than I want to say.

I have a new HVLP gravity feed gun with regulator and a 1.5 tip. What pressure should my tank regulator for output be set at. Right now I have it at 60 psi, with the spray gun reg at 41 psi.

How much primer should I mix, the capacity of the canister is a little over 16 oz. .6 liter. I'm painting the outside of four(4) 15" rims.

Any help will be appreciated
Thank You

I'm pretty sure that rims are gender neutral, check with a local vetrinarian to be sure. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
When I sprayed my rims, first I did the backs then the fronts. I stood mine up on end to paint the rim, rolling it along as I sprayed. Then I put them down on their backs to paint the centers and outside. That way I avoided any runs and got good coverage everywhere.

I have found that the best way to paint rims is to mount the tire but don't fill it with air. Then mask the tire with good paper and paint the rim. This way you have full control of the painting without touching the rim. When you are finished and the rims are dry, pull the paper off and air up the tires. Works perfect, for me.

There is a slight dis-advanatege. The rims are bare and there is no car to mount them on. That's why I have this turn table idea.

Anyone know how much paint I should mix.

I tink about a quart and a half is enough, if I remember correctly. Mix up a quart and see how far you get, you can always mix some more. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

That seem like a lot of paint for an area about 15"H x 60"W.

Well, I was doing all five rims, inside and out. It was about two years ago, so my memory isn't what it was back then. I suffer from SOMETIMERS disease. It's like alzheimers, only part-time. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Try hanging the rims from the air valve hole with metal rod (3/16 thick). That way you can spray it all at once.

Getting eaiser.

Anyone else have some answers to the rest of my question about air pressure and quanity to mix.

Thank You TC

Hey Brob, you were right. That did seem like a lot of paint. I meant to say PINT instead of QUART. While in the garage lastnight, I glanced at my paint guns and realized that they only hold that much. Sorry for the screw-up. I hope you didn't have to waste any unused paint on account of me.

Well I'm certainly no expert on painting, and I don't know what products you're using. The best advice I can give you at this point, with the limited info I have, is to follow the manufacturer's recommendations or instructions on the can. I wish I could be more help by hanging out here to see if you have anymore questions that I might be able to answer but I have to get out of here. I have to see someone about a new job offer. I can check back in when I get back later today to see how your doing. Best of luck!
