Gentlemen, did a search, got some good info from 68Phoenix and Clint Turner. Still in a quandry as to the correct conclusion I should reach. My gas gauge reads 1/4 when the tank is just about empty. What needs to be fixed? Thanks for any consideration or help. R.B.

Have You Drop The Tank To Check To See If The Sending Unit Is Sticking Or If The Sock Isnt In The Way For The Arm To Drop All The Way Down? Have You Checked Your Frame Ground?

I had bought a new sending unit and a new gauge. I had the same problem!!! I ended up bending the sending unit about 1/4 inch. Now my gauge works great.

Does it read full when the tank is full, or does it read way above full? If it reads way above full, there poor connection in the circuit, most likely the frame ground at the tank. If the gauge reads normal at full, the float arm may need to be bent.
No matter how much fuel you put in, it only goes a little way above Full on the guage. Does this help?

Ground the tank sender wire. The gage should read empty with the key on. If it's still reading 1/4 tank the problem might be a broken or missing resistor on the back of the gage. It looks like a ceramic block around 1 inch long.
