I am shaving my elco and also want to paint some of the chrome. I know paint peels off chrome so I want to know how to prepare it. Is sanding good enough? Should I, can I, sand blast it? I want to powder coat it. Maybe even the bumpers. How about the aluminium and the plastic (grill)?

Have the chrome blasted and powdercoated, most powdercoating places do the blasting for you. You'll need to paint the grille, alluminum can be powdercoated.

If you are friendly with a chrome shop they can put it in their tank to remove the chrome. Its just like doing a good paint job, they to must remove someone else's chrome before they rechrome. :D
