I am tired of the open differential in my '68 12 bolt picking one wheel to spin. I have been cosidering a posi unit, but I don't want to hassle with the ring/pinion re-set up, etc.

I saw these Powertrax lockers in the Jegs catalog, and called the company company direct. They have one called a 'No Slip', which is supposed to be good for road use because it actually does 'slip' for turns. However, in high load situations (burn outs) it will lock and deliver power to both wheels equally where a posi could have more power (and speed) going to one wheel causing fish tailing.

It simply replaces the spider gears and fills the opening in the differential case without messing with the ring and pinion. At about $400, it sounds too good to be true. Anyone seen one in actual use?

I would call my application pretty light duty, about 1500 miles per year with a few wheelspinning starts thrown in.

Gibbons, I dont own one but I have heard all the same things you have.As far as I know its all true(I did some research on them last year) Biggest complaint I heard is they are a little noisy(bunch of whiners if you ask me)Big deal! They are supposed to go in as easy as you described.I think its about time some of these rear end prices come I have been feeling like the damn Air Force lately with some of the prices we have to pay.

I have a PowerTrac Performance Locker in my 67EC. Works fine. They don't have friction clutches like a posi. They use steel dogs that engage slots. When going straight the dogs are fully engage with the slots, both tires are locked together like a spool. When you turn the dogs lift from the slots allowing the outside tire to turn faster. It is the clicking of the dogs as they slid by the slots that make the sound heard. I can't really comment on the noise as my engine w/gear drive and loud exhaust mask any sounds it makes http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif.
