Hi all, new to the forum. I am in the process of restoring a 70 ss chevelle. This is my first car restoration and finding this website is a great resource. I was wanting to galvanize my frame but don't know of anyone in my area. Anyone know of one in the Kansas area?

Do a yahoo or google search on hot dip galvanizing, should bring up lists of what you need.

I found a local galvanizer here in kansas. They want $180 dollars to do the frame. After I have this done what should I do for a color coating?

i have noticed after preping my frame for galvanizing that the car had a little fender bender at some time and the front of the frame is a little kinked. my question is can this frame be filled with body filler after the galvanizing is done? i am going to try and straighten it the best i can with the torch but don't think i can get it perfect.

I sure wouldn't put filler on a frame. Are you doing it for cosmetic improvement? It should be properly straightened and welded before galvanizing.
I just galvanized my 70 Chevelle frame in Denver...cost me $350.00. As stated in other threads, make sure they skip the oil quenching step. My galvanizer offered a "profiling" step which etches the galvanized metal, and makes it ready for paint. It should be painted within 48 hours. I used the brush on Anchor paints, and am very happy with the results. Good Luck!

You can use plastic filler on a frame to smooth out pitted areas, I've done it, can't tell it's there and you would be suprised at how many people do this. You can also use filler primer to fill in the pits if they are not too deep. I'm going to do all this to my convertible frame when ready and it's going to look better than new

I used the water borne primer 2703. Available in three colors. I brushed it on. Make sure the galvanized metal is properly prepared ( mine was profiled).
Then I applied Anchor's Saf-T-Gard 2 # 700 series in gloss black, also with a brush. I used the optional hardener with it. I have pictures in the showroom under 70 Chevelles. Good luck.
