I'm in the process of updating/improving the rear suspension on my 67 Chevelle. It's a former street car, but drag race only now. Has a 396, T400. Weighs 3250lbs without me. Not gutted, does have a rollcage and only fiberglass is the hood. Runs 11.80 at 112mph. Best 60/ft time is 1.59, but usually is around a 1.62. Here's the current rearend set up.
12 bolt, stock posi with 4.10 gears. Factory boxed LCAs with factory sway bar, UCAs have been boxed, rubber bushings all around, Lakewood no-hop bars, stock springs, old Koni drag shocks, air bag in right spring, 10.5/28in MT slicks.
I'm suprised the stock 12-bolt has lasted as long as it has - the lack of c-clip eliminators has me spooked. Plus, I'm going to be stepping up to a much bigger cube motor in the next year and possibly a 4-speed. Want to be running deep in the 10s. Here's what I'm planning to do with the rear suspension.
Strange Dana 60 with 4.10s, spool and 35-spline axles, UMI tubular LCAs, Edelbrock adjustable UPCs, Wolfe weld in single sway bar, keep the air bag.
I need suggestions/comments on bushings or johnny joints, changing the rear shocks, using aftermarket springs, etc. Any comments about the whole idea is appreciated! Thanks!!!
