Just were is the correct place for the spare in a El Camino/Sprint? Behind the Driver or Pass?

In my '71 Sprint, it would go behind the passenger seat. Of course, in my car 1) the current seats don't fold forward so I couldn't put a spare in if I wanted to and 2) if I did get one in there it'd fall through the rusted floor pan and end up rolling along to somewhere other than where I was planning on going... http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

It goes on the passenger side, later models lay down under the bed on the passenger side.

Elcaminos are special!
I'd rather walk around with a Chevrolet hubcap in my hand than drive a Ford

Thanks for the info.
Just what is the little compartment behind the driver for? Just more storage space because they don't have trunks?.

Yes the cut out is for a "Storage Box". It is a large plastic insert. Many of the Parts suppliers sell the box for about $125.00 I removed the plastic liner and have a donut spare pushed in the space.
