I recently bought this 70 SS 396 Chevelle as my next project car. It's pretty rough, but I'm in it cheap, and it is original.
Question though- vin tag is rusted away due to a leaky windshield (due to the crappy vinyl top). Title is in original owners name, and I know the full history of the car. Question is- what do I do about the missing vin plate? The sticker on the door clearly shows the vin, but can you get replacement vin plates anywhere for documented cars? I only paid $500 for it, and it came with the original tranny (matching vin) and rear end is original- motor is NOM from 69 model car.

$500
WOW
And I always thought I found deals. You should go buy some lottery tickets, you might be on a lucky streak :beers:
I have never heard of a VIN plate getting replaced. doesnt mean it doesnt happen, Ive just never seen it.
I really wouldnt worry about it though, you have the title and the vin is in enough other places. to proove the authenticity of the car

Unfortunately the rusted away VIN tag will keep the worth of the car down.
You need to inquire about it at your local DMV

I'll check with the DMV. The guy I bought it from is a good friend- so he gave me a good buddy discount =)
I sold my 71 SS454 late last year and just couldn't do without- I hope I can find a buildsheet on this one- looks pretty slim unless it's in the top of the rear seat or over the gas tank.

I'll guess PA. Looks like a PA inspection sticker on the windshield.

Way off- this car came from near Austin Texas- I live south of Houston Texas. The real rust on this one was from the vinyl top

Nice score. Too bad about the vin tag. Sounds like murphys law, there is always some catch. Still a sweet find. Some deals are still out there I guess. I know of a green 70SS that is just sitting out in a driveway down the road and it gets moved but they never really do anything to it. They finally covered it a few years ago. Im sure because people keep asking them to sell it.
Post the cowl info and see what plant it was built in (Arlington?). Most here have recommendations on where they found thiers.

Look at the passenger side along the rear window. Dang, I hate vinyl tops!
