There is a set of 2" drop coils on eBay that were for a 68 ... Will they work on my 67? (Both were small block cars.)

Please help... I read something about Square vs. Tang? I also thought I heard you could use one generation in another but not reverse .... the ebay auction ends soon. . . Ends Feb-25-06 13:52:18 PST ....

This is unfortunately too late for the bidding, but you could use 67 springs in the 68, but not the 68 springs in the 67. The 67 springs are square on both ends, while the 68s are square on one end and tangential on the other.

Well I won the springs. They look like tang on both ends. I'll hope they fit or they will be on the classified section later .....

bigdog454 - one of the other posts I was reading was opposite of what you said, if I read it right... 64-67 tang/tang . . . so we'll see what happens....

From other post:
Well, look over this chart:

Or if you square one of the spring ends maybe you could use something from here:

What is weird about the sporings in that pic is that only one of the coils appears to have a tang end - from the pic all the others look like square ends!

Those springs are for a '68, let me expand on my other reply. The square end is not exactly like a valve spring - just more so than a tang end. If you notice on your new springs one of the spring ends is definitely closer to the last coil than the other end. On a tang/tang both of the tang ends have a large gap from the last coil - on a square end the end is bent back toward the last coil.

Did you find a number stamped on the end of the coil? If so, look on those charts to find the spring properties.

Hey mcmlxix,

Thanks for pointing that out. I went back to my Moog catalog and after the section on double square end springs (about 10 part numbers) was the section (on the following page) on double tangential. A sticky note with part numbers covereved the double tangential heading. So, I apologize. The information you uncovered was correct - for 67 both ends are tangential.

The springs in your photo are square at the top and tangential at the bottom - typical for 68-72 (and up).
