I am getting ready to paint my vehicle and am removing all trim and chrome. I will take of the bumpers last. I have a '67 El Camino. Do I need to get help with this because of the weight of the bumpers? Can I just put one side on a floor jack after loosening? Has any one else done this? Tips? Thanks for your help. Love this site!

It's definitely a two person job AFTER the paint is done but before that, you should be able to handle it yourself.

I bolt a length of 2x4 (typically 12") to my jack (remove cup, lag bolt from underside using large fender washer) so I don't dent, bend or scratch things using it. It also acts as a nice support for wider things. Leave the bolt just loose enough to swivel the board to any position that works best for the situation. Cheap and easy to replace when it gets chewed up enough.

I just removed both the front and rear bumpers of my 68 SS this afternoon. I took out the two side bolts which bolt it to the frame, then removed the bolt below the gas filler neck. Actually the filler neck held the bumper up while I wiggled it loose on the sides. I pulled it off myself-it is not very heavy at all-just want to have a good hold as you work it over the filler neck to keep it from falling on the floor. Go for it!

Thanks for the help! It gives me a better idea about what I am about to tackle. My filler neck is on the side so that small inconvienience is not there. Later!!!
