: Cast Aluminum SBC Timing Covers?
L48M20 Feb 23rd, 06, 1:50 PM Any one have experience on a cast aluminum timing cover for a small block chevy?
I currently have a sheet metal 2 piece Mr Gasket...what a piece of junk. I was extremely careful installing it and was concerned with the lower portion of the cover as it did not have any fasteners below the crank...that is where it leaks.
I want to completely eliminate the issue with a solid cast aluminum cover.
One direction is:

I would rather have a one piece as I don't plan on tweaking the cam timing, but it will work.
Anyone use one? What kind of gasket do they use between the two piece parting line?
Thanks
:)
NWShovel Feb 23rd, 06, 2:49 PM why not get a one piece cast cover then?
L48M20 Feb 23rd, 06, 4:45 PM I haven't seen a beefy single cast aluminum cover yet.
The CC 2 piece model has the build I'm looking for.
:D
Motorhead62 Feb 23rd, 06, 5:13 PM Here you go, I have bought many items from this Ebay store, great seller.

zeke67 Feb 23rd, 06, 11:55 PM I've got one, not sure the brand. I've had this for several years, probably at least 10. It seals well. It requires allen head cap screws. I use a standard gasket on the block face and a bead of silicone at the oil pan.
I have a short water pump, and it barely clears the cover -- I believe I'm running double water pump gaskets to help the clearance, but can't remember for sure. I had to clearance a couple of the bolt heads on the impeller cover with a grinder.
Go69 Feb 24th, 06, 1:52 PM The thing to watch for is whether or not it will clear a double-roller timing chain set-up, and/or roller cam. I have both, and have been warned about the cheap (inexpensive?) one piece covers not fitting due to touching the chain, or cam button.

ratrace Feb 24th, 06, 2:04 PM BLP products makes some nice ones too. looks like same as comps but not as expensive.
L48M20 Feb 24th, 06, 5:33 PM Roller chains...very good point. I'm running a Cloyes double roller.
What is BLP?
Thanks
JohnC Feb 25th, 06, 2:30 AM I've got the Summit brand cast aluminum timing cover. It was installed when my engine was professionally built. The engine builder seemed to like it. Fit well without any leak. I think I've got a Cloyes street roller timing set. From my experience, I'd recommend it.

sidlev Feb 26th, 06, 8:19 PM I have a Cloyes that I got from Summit. It has a round "O" ring sealed cover over the cam gear, so changing the cam timing is easy. No leaks so far. What I like best is the cam button is built into the cover with a threaded adjuster. Remove the set screw, turn the adjuster until the button contacts the cam, and put the set screw back. Vey quick and easy roller cam backlash adjustment. It just clears a short pump.

I have to agree the cloyes you have is IMO the best thing out there .I will never recommend anything else!!!
