Hi All in Chevy Land
Could some please comment if there is a Conversion Kit available
to toss the original Contact Breaker Distributor and stuff in
an GM HEI?????
Not that l'm having problems but l can't seem to find a conversion
manual or Diagram on what this all entails......
Thinking for keeping the original Dist. and changing out the guts....also..

Ive seem plenty of cars with a newer HIE in them, it must not be that difficult.

Dug, My advice is to get Dave Ray to convert you orig dist, he will recondition it and set you your engines specs and use readily available parts. His website is www.davessmallbodyheis.com Check it out.

Pertronix and Mallory both make kits that allow you to keep an original distributor and original wiring.

Here are some photos of Dave's conversion's. He also sets them up to the specs of your engine and drivetrain. It is a true plug and play. This is the one he built for my sb400.

I upgraded my 64 with a crane cams XR700 conversion, only thing is you have a module to mount, I put mine on the firewall. I think you might be able to mount it out of sight as it had fairly long wires from dist to module. The XR700 uses an optical trigger with a shutter wheel instead of the magnetic pickup like in most electronic ignitions.

I upgraded mine with the Accel kit. Works great and looks stock.

About $175. It came with cap and rotor.

I love the looks of the Pertronix, but I'm on a kind of tight budget.I picked up a stock HEI unit for $35,and all I had to do was put a new end on the hot wire and it has been working great for over a year now.You can't really beat a stock unit for average everyday driving.
