i have a 65 malibu ss with 327 that was not original, orig was 6 cyl. i want to determine HP of motor and other info like age, etc. i was told i can go to a GM website and input the numbers and the history will be there. anyone know what that website is? also, there are three numbers on the front of the motor , which is the engine no.? the only one i can read is 14N214377, partial on another is __521CMA. what are these no.s if they aren't for the block? thanks!!!

www.mortec.com will give you the engine info. There is some good transmission decoding info over at www.nastyz28.com

14N214377 is the VIN derivative of the original car. 1 (Chevrolet) 4 (1974), N (Norwood assembly plant) 214377 sequential number for that vehicle.
For 74 V8s, CMA looks like the suffix code for 350/145hp w/TH350 Nova and the '521' looks like the date of March 21.
I don't believe GM has a site for decoding information. Not to sound too blunt, but they could care less about a car over a couple of years old. http://www.mortec.com has a lot of casting numbers for blocks and heads and both my site and http://www.nastyz28.com/decode.html has come good information.

See your other post, I decoded all the engine date there. It a 1974 Camaro 350/145hp 2-bbl carb engine. Not an SS or Z28 engine (those had 4-bbl).
You got a run of the mill small block 350.
No GM Site. Even with current models, only dealers have access to that info..
