I'm thinking about using POR-15, fibreglass and resin to patch a hole in my trunkpan beside the wheel well that is about the area of my hand. All the rot has been cut away. It exposed a frame that supports the body. I'm thinking about painting the frame with POR and applying some layers of POR soaked fibreglass. Then transition into layers with a two-part marine resin to finish filling the hole. Should I :1 Use the combination: 2 Use POR-15 only: 3 Paint frame, let dry, scuff, then fibreglass and resin.

Por has a product that works similar to what you're describing. Go here and check out their floor pan repair kit. www.por15.com (http://www.por15.com)

Hint: you can buy the Por fiberglass cloth, a can of silver Por 15 and the Por putty cheaper than the kit. They throw brushes, gloves, Marine Clean, and Por Solvent in the kit which drives the cost up. You can buy the solvent in smaller quantities, you can use Citrus Clean from Home Depot, and you pick up brushes and gloves from a local hardware store.

I have used POR with fiberglass matting to patch small (dime-nickel sized) holes. It is pretty thin compared to resin, so you need to support the the back side until it dries. I feel confident that the repairs I made will last me forever.

I do not recommend trying to lay resin impregnated fiberglass over the POR. I don't believe that it will adhere. Almost nothing adheres to POR.

Look into the product that Randy mentioned. Else I would weld in a patch or rivit a patch & then POR w/fiberglass if welding is not an option.
