: 1970 LS6 project car questions
68TOM Feb 20th, 06, 10:54 AM A buddy of mine has a chance to pick up a red with black interior 1970 LS6 car, minus the motor that needs a total restoration. All the main parts ( original four speed, rear end, doors fenders, ect.) come with the car.
It even has the original built sheet documenting it as a LS6 car.
My friend is worried about how to justify this to the wife as a sound investment and not get him kicked out of the house.
My question is, If he restores this himself back to top show shape and installs a nice crate motor in to it, what do you thing the street value (low to high) of this car would be minus the original LS6 motor?
Thanks,
Tom
alss Feb 20th, 06, 11:52 AM If the paperwork is good and I mean real!!..and he does a nice resto I can see it worth 50-65K easily maybe more imho.

'clees Feb 20th, 06, 12:24 PM Have him sit his wife down and watch B/J auctions or look on ebay. Those prices are high enough to convince anyone that its a good deal.
68TOM Feb 20th, 06, 12:36 PM I know Barrett- Jackson prices are without a doubt "The High End' of the price world. I am looking some "real world" value for a car like this.
68TOM Feb 20th, 06, 12:43 PM Thanks Albert.
That the ball park I was thinking too. Checked out you 70, nice!

I don't think you can justify any of our cars as strictly "investments". Restoring a car is a hobby, otherwise you could make alot more money simply by working the thousand hours it takes to restore. Hemmings will probably get you closer to real world pricing. Also, you can look up old auction results for Kruse, Mecum, etc.
lowtideboatmaker Feb 20th, 06, 2:14 PM look for a 70 ls6 (block or more) verses a new crate motor they are out there then you will be "cookin with hot grease" check out www.bigblockbruce.com i dont know anything about him but the site seems impressive. i am getting ready to clone an ls6 from a 70 malibu, i found one(motor) you would be surprised what you can find when you start looking
fast67vellen2o Feb 20th, 06, 4:50 PM sounds like his buddy is interested in the one on ebay
2BlueLS6's Feb 20th, 06, 5:14 PM If the auction was real, somebody sold an LS6 project car with a replacement motor on E Bay within the last couple of weeks for 56 thousand and there were 56 bids. It had a replacement engine. There's another rust bucket/hull/project on there now that was over 13K last time I looked and it didn't have a single piece of the original drivetrain. He oughta just do an LS6 search on E Bay, make it a Favorite Search so he gets daily E Mail notifications and get his wife to monitor it if he's tryin' to sell her on the idea.
I think the car would be worth more with a 70 dated 512 block than with a crate motor, and all things considered probably wouldn't cost more than an extra couple of thou. to do it that way.
Dave Birdwell Feb 20th, 06, 8:58 PM A "numbers matching" CLONE (canada car, no faking that one!) sold at Auburn last September for $81K. Resale red, it's the right color...
68TOM Feb 20th, 06, 9:09 PM I just saw that one on e-bay today going for 15,000 grand with seven days to go, ouch! This is not one my buddys looking at but it is similar. Do you think that this guy on e-bay is artifically "shopping" that 70 LS6 to build the price up to inflate the money and then pull it off the listing for a back door deal?
704EVER Feb 20th, 06, 10:11 PM Pretty soon there's going to be more LS-6 cars than 427-435 vettes. I just hope people do their research, to know what they're buying. That's why I think forums like these are crucial to the average Joe, looking to spend a small fortune on his once in a lifetime dream car. P.S. I think the private bidder scam on E-bay should be outlawed.
