: positive attitude i'm losing mine
grovey Feb 19th, 06, 9:47 PM getting tired of fighting this bbc install, from the money spent, parts locating, fabrication, parts that are supposed to fit,but don't. man it's hard to keep your chin up sometimes. last week it was the tranny crossmember, driveline, tire clearance , this week it's the headers, oil filter relocation, radiator shroud, alt conversion. disc brake kit coming this week, guess i'll probably have some battles with that as well. never thought i'd have so many problems putting a bbc back in my 66! guess i'm running out of patience. how do you guys keep your positive attitudes? just venting i guess!
ejrempel Feb 19th, 06, 10:00 PM My wife says 'perspective'. She is really smart, so I tend to believe her. Small blocks are like belly buttons. Everyone has one. Big blocks are like, uh, lets see, hmmmm, how shall I put this delicately? Porn stars.
JWA Feb 19th, 06, 10:23 PM Sometimes you just need to take a break. My pro street has been a similar fight. I decided to walk away and haven't turned a wrench on it since last summer. I got other things to occupy my time right now and figure I'll get back to it when I'm ready. It does help having another hotrod that runs so I can go for a spin if needed. I also bought me a couple of off-road toys to get away from the cars completely if I want. That works for me
sharpie Feb 19th, 06, 10:43 PM Just think about the day you turn that key and she fires up spueing burnt fuel out the tail pipes, The shakein of the car,the vibes in your chest, your ears ringing for the loud exhaust, the thrill when you back her out into the street, the fell when you pull her into the gas station and EVERONE is looking, and those words NICE car! And a welder doen't hurt!:D
grovey Feb 19th, 06, 11:19 PM just had to walk away today after wrestling for a hour to get the headers in, just to find out that two tubes hit the steering arm and there also hitting in two places on the pass side a arm mounts. also it looks like i'll have to go with a remote oil filter setup as well. i know it will be worth it in the end. but the ends not in sight yet.
BlueSS454 Feb 19th, 06, 11:29 PM The Charger keeps giving me battles like this. Everytime I think I can't possibly find anymore surprises, I keep opening up Pandora's Box on the friggin thing everytime I move to a new area that needs fixing. I was pretty disgusted with it last week. I got a whole lot of nothing done on it and now I'm about 4 weeks behind of where I should be.
Chris/75 Feb 19th, 06, 11:37 PM Step away from it for a day or two, or even a week or so. Come back to it later with a clear mind, might go smoother. Ive been in the same deal and ive had to take a break from it,and ive had times when i go later to work on it, and it all comes together okay. Keep at it.
Redrum Feb 20th, 06, 12:32 AM I actually love that part of the hobby! I take every problem as a challenge to be worked out. I even have a bit of a thought process that anything done wrong can be fixed so if the first attempt is not right I get to do it again.
I actually find the process of building the car more rewarding than the driving and racing of the finished project. I just can't afford to keep doing new projects as I set the bar higher every time.
Phil Keller Feb 20th, 06, 1:17 AM When something fun becomes drudgery, it's time to step away for a while. Your focus and energy for the project will return. Good luck.

Some people have the luxury of.
A father, brother, uncle, or friend, or a friend of your friend, that are master mechanics. A labor tradeoff, or lots of free time to search for answers, or make phone calls.
Or able to focus on just the task at hand, with no interuptions, or home or business matters that they have to think about.
Every tool known to man, well lit and warm or air conditioned work shop.
Lots of mechanical experience, in the family since the dirt was clean.
There are a few on here that get help, and others that don't, just don't get discouraged. I'm retired and have all the time in the world to do something, yet I have to do things over too.
Read what I told you a second time, a little slower, then pause and stop and think about it, and under your circumstances, you're probably doing pretty good.

novaderrik Feb 20th, 06, 2:17 AM just stop "trying" so hard.
if, for example, the headers are giving you fits, go sit in the driver's seat and take a look around the interior. i'm sure you'll find something in there that could use some work.
when you get sick of that, lay on the creeper underneath the car and just look at stuff and fix whatever you end up fixing.
when i had my Nova, i can't even begin to remember how many times i just popped the hood to check the oil or coolant or whatever, and wound up re-routing the sparkplug wires or putting that CS 120 alternator on it or wiping off the chrome air cleaner or getting out the wire ties and cleaning up the wiring harness clutter..
i spent entire weekends just "checking the oil" a few times..
hell, that one day, i wound up tearing it down to a bare shell to get myself motivated to buy those suspension bushings and get that other subframe put in..
i miss that car..
