Too bad NASCAR plays favorites with their pretty-boy gordon-owned team, rather than penalize them somehow that would actually affect the team.

That car should never have been allowed to race. It should have been impounded and make them run a back-up.

How bout that 48 car? :D

The best driver and best car won today. He was lucky Stewart couldn't get to him to try to take him out too.

What was Tonys problem today anyway. All that talk about the aggressive driving then he goes out there and trys to hit everthing on the track.

NASCAR should have parked him.

May the best team win today and that's exactly what happened! The 48 crew showed they could come together after a rough couple weeks and walk away with a Daytona 500 WIN!!!! :) :) :)

Tony needs to have his opinions evaluated, he talks smart about rough driving and how Nascar should penalize and then he's the biggest offender? What gives?

Everyone knows that ANYBODY in the top 10 could have won that race right down to the final turn, Jimmy got lucky that everyone behind him started screwing around allowing him to get a few car lengths, he deffinately did not "earn" it, people like stewart, jr, and gordon earned it, they fought all day for it, jimmy got lucky at the end.

How can you say that when Jimmie had to work his way up also and stayed near the front most of the day. Stewart was hitting everything on the track and complaining about it, what a whiner!

Well at least A Chevy Won it, and it wasnt Gorden! Yeah! I would ve liked to see Dale win but thats the way it goes. I know Tony was pretty wild today and did some things he shouldnt have done, but i dont care what anyone says, he can flat out drive! To bad his temper gets in the way of his steering wheel at times, but i know he really wants to win the 500 and probally shouldve or couldve if he didnt get into the ordeals he got himself in. Ive seen Jimmy Johnson do some stupid things in those restrictor plate races himself, that i think have kept him from winning some of those past races, stuff like blocking and so forth, which i know they all do at times, but he was pretty clean from what i saw today, he played it smart, kept his nose clean and was there at the end with the help he needed to get up front and stay there. But i do wonder if his car will pass the after race inspection... Never did care for his cheating crew cheif. I dont think he was the best car, and certainly not the best driver out there at all, but he was able to be in the best place at the best time and thats what counts. Again, at least it was a Chevy, and not Gorden!

I've been a NASCAR fan for more years than MOST of you guys have been living on this planet. I even have Dale Sr's autograph on the hood of my 56 Vette (if I could figure out how to post pictures, I'd post it). But, for the past few years (maybe since Dale Sr has been gone), I have become somewhat disinchanted. I may do the same to NASCAR that I have done with SUPER CHEVY magazine----------------not renew my subscription!!!!
I REALLY wish there were more NASCAR participants who had the class of Bill Elliot and Harry Gant! They were competitors as well as gentlemen!

I've already kissed goodbye to pro football and baseball (it's a SPORT, when millionaires go on strike to make more millions, I have no use for them!).

Tom my friend, I could not have said it better myself, we must have went to the same school or be about the same age, I have been following NASCAR since 59 when MR Lee Petty won in the bubble top Olds. I also gave Pro Football up including Super Bowls, when they make more than Doctors who save human lives there is something very wrong with that picture. As I said in another post it is all about money and greed. I also liked Harry Gant, Harry said once if NASCAR does not want you to win you will not. I believe him. If and If I have favorite now it would be Carl Edwards, Ford or not, he is a gentleman in my book.

I'm with Tom, as a kid growing up I ate, drank and slept sports but it seems that sports is taking a backseat to advertising money. If you guys wanted to see some great NASCAR the early years of TV were great, cars looked great the racing was great, no pit road speed limit (I know I know it's safer now) and the cars were FASTER !! Now it's just a bunch of billboards riding around with corporate driver's in the correct age group selling product. I miss the old days when Harry Gant would plug his steakhouse ("Ya all come on down to the Harry Gant Steakhouse") and number 3 was hated those were the days. Now if I wanna see some good racing I go to my local dirt track or paved one. When Toyota comes in it's the begining of the end for any team on a tight budget the money they (Toyota) will spend take your breath away. In short time Toyota will dictate rules (bye bye carbs hello F.I.) . look at every series they enter IMSA, INDY, F1, they even tried to put imports in IHRA Pro Stocks class but the fans raised up and put a hold on it for a year or two (thanks IHRA fans !!) Toyota will do whatever it takes $$$ to win. Just my $.02.

They were. Cheating is a part of NASCAR's heritage. Now with the cookie cutter cars and plastic drivers, it just isn't the same. Restricter plates? Why not make them run 4 bangers? Do you believe there is a team out there that isn't looking to skirt the rules? Poor old Smokey probably wouldn't even recognize this media show as stock car racing. Just wait until the Toyotas enter Nextel Cup racing. Sushi House as a sponsor?

So did Jimmy's. Three hours of teardown after the race...and a perfectly legal car.

It's time to give credit where credit is due and after a 3 hour inspection do you think Nascar is going to turn the other cheek because Jimmie is good looking and brings in fans? I don't think so, Dale Jr. fits that bill.

I'm happy for the 48 team and hope they repeat again Sunday!

and hope they repeat again Sunday! You mean the part about getting caught cheating, and getting nothing more than a slap on the wrist, or the part where he got lucky and there was a caution that kept him in front? ;)

Derek...

Under the current car configurations, I have seen very few races...if any...where luck did not play a factor in the outcome. I am a Rudd fan, ask me how many times I have seen dumb luck snatch defeat from the jaws of victory over Ricky's career.....

The 48 team ran a flawless race. JJ was at the right place at the right time and stayed out of trouble.

I'm liking Tony Stewart better every day. You know where you stand with Tony. You do something stupid and Tony lets you know. Kenseth found that out when Tony pushed him to the infield. Apparently Kenseth wasn't bright enough to figure out what happened or why.

Apparently Kenseth wasn't bright enough to figure out what happened or why.Yes, Tony is filling the void that Dale Sr. left when he died. He has the talent, now he's working on the intimidation. Nascar needs someone to be the bad-ass to keep things entertaining.

For a car that went to the back 3 times (wreck w/#24, "agressive driving" penalty, and penalty for running over the jack) to finish 5th is pretty amazing.

I was not going to respond to any more of the replies here, but now I have to take exception.
Tony does not, REPEAT, DOES NOT, and never will, have the character of Dale Sr. True, he does DISPLAY some of the traits like Dale did, which were things that made fans either love or hate Dale Sr. (no in between), but he will NEVER, NEVER be the Man that Dale Sr. was. Dale was a person who had rough character, probably attributed to his upbringing. Tony is a puke, whining punk. Very few, if anyone would NEVER EVER care to tangle with Dale Sr. I'm 63yrs old (that's a very old man by many of your standards), but I'd be thrilled to death to be given the opportunity to physically beat some humility into Tony. Yes, probably because of my advanced years, I would be at a disadvantage. That's why I would sneak up behind him with a 2x4!!!
There was a time when I WAS NOT a Dale Sr. fan, but I had a lot of respect for him. Before I show any respect for Tony, I'll spit on him first! Then, I'll teach him how to shave.
Any part of that I didn't explain clearly? Feel free to email me at home tparsons6@cox.net

When you get a caution, that close to the end of a restrictor/mega track race, the should not count the lap's and pick up where the caution came out. By the time they got up to sped, the race was over. Run those final 10 lap's again, and i think you would've seen jr up there. Team E need's to get another driver out there.

I don't think there is a team out there that doesn't bend the rules. Some just do it more than others. The line is not always clear so they stretch it as far as they think they can go. Sometimes they cross it. Bending the rules is part of all sports and always will be.

I can't beleive that some of you think that NASCAR favors some drivers. I just don't see it. I'm not a Gordon or Johnson fan but they are both farly talented drivers and happen to be in some of the best equipment.

I too miss the days of Harry Gant (I am a huge Harry Gant fan), Bill Elliott, Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, etc. The cars still looked like the showroom cars and money was not as big of a factor in the sport. I still remember watching Alan Kulwicki get that championship in 1992. Good memories. :)

Just look at waltrip, having all jr.'s cars and some of his crew last year, he was all of a sudden a contender in a lot of races, but now no longer with dei you didn't hear much of him in daytona. Some teams are better and only races such as the IROC series highlight driver ability, but nascar needs to stop being so much like iroc imo...

Tony has issues, I didn't like how he took out Kenseth, but he did climb through the field like nobody else could.

He is no Dale Sr. off the track, but I don't believe anybody else racing today wants to win as much as he does every race.

Kinda of a goof ? Yes. But I think he is also the best driver in racing today.
