TT402LS1 Feb 19th, 06, 4:23 PM Nice car!!! Hope mine turns out as nice!
Derek69SS Feb 19th, 06, 4:46 PM AWESOME! Thanks for sharing
BB_Mike Feb 19th, 06, 8:25 PM What is in the picture that shows the intercooler end-tank? Looks like the driver's side of the cooler. The neck has something "special" attached to it. Some kind of water injection?
I really like the overall product you have there. Very well done.
Do the Manifold and Turbo require any kind of extra, front end, support? I notice a piece of angle iron in one picture, but that was probably just mock-up assitance. I'm curious about manifold heat and the weight on the flanges. Or are the exit EGT's per tube not a concern for fatigue of the welding joints?
Again, very nice setup.
scotty Feb 19th, 06, 8:30 PM Th piece on the end tank of the intercooler is the 50 mm Blow off valve. When I let off the gas, it blows off the current pressure in the system to prevent reversion to the turbos.
The turbos are supported by the intercooler cold side piping only. It is completely adequate.
TT402LS1 Feb 19th, 06, 9:46 PM One header is differnt from the other. What was the left header made to clear? Steering shaft??? Thanks - Ron
scotty Feb 19th, 06, 9:56 PM The steering shaft is interference. It took alot of work to clear it. That is why the headers are different.
BB_Mike Feb 20th, 06, 1:27 AM I think I get it now. So you have both a waiste gate valve on the hot side, and then the blow off valve gets rid of the already built pressure.
either way, it's all good. :)
fatboy95 Feb 20th, 06, 1:51 AM I truely have had dreams of doing that with my 69... that is..is..is sooooo beautiful!
I bet it cost a fortune to..
Oh yeah, what transmission do you have backing that thing up with?
Gokou Feb 20th, 06, 1:37 PM Very cool, as I said in the earlier posts, nice work!
The pics give me motivation to design an intercooler for my car, which I really need to do. Unfortunately the '69 nose is more cramped than the 70-72 cars, and I also have the joys of packaging around an A/C condensor (and the oil and power steering coolers I intend to add...)
What did you do for a hood latch? Did you eliminate the factory center latch (looks like you did in the pics)? Are you running pins only or another kind of latch on the outsides?
Troy
scotty Feb 20th, 06, 6:10 PM Thanks for all the compliments!!
This entire setup was relatively cheap. I built it for less the I sold my N/A 427" SBC I had last year.
For the hood latch, I had to ditch the stock one. I put factory style hood pins on it instead. I have actually grown to like the look!

Good to know. My hood latch and actuator arm for it is right where the intercooler is going to go on my car, so the hood latch is going bye-bye. I'm now trying to decide between factory style pins or a pair of Aerocatch flush-mount locking latches.
scotty Feb 20th, 06, 7:20 PM Just make sure the hood pins are approved by the manufaturer to completely hold the hood down on the own. Most are not to be used alone. You do not want the hood flying up at 150+ mph!!

Absolutely. My stock hood latch is holding fine at that speed (and then some) but I do worry about it constantly.
Who did you get your pins from?
The aerocatch latches are rated at 650lbs pullout load per latch. However, given aero forces under the hood at 150+ I'm betting I would use most of that margin up. Gotta get to work on a hood venting scheme too.
93Polo Feb 21st, 06, 11:03 AM Good to see one of the ls1 A body guys from LS1tech on here.
Love the fabrication work.
scotty Feb 21st, 06, 6:10 PM I got the hood pins from ebay. They are factory repro's. All stainless.
Thanks for the compliments!!
ezstriper Feb 22nd, 06, 10:18 AM Nice, nice car !!! very slick fabrication !!!!Rob
NWShovel Feb 23rd, 06, 12:47 PM Good to see one of the ls1 A body guys from LS1tech on here.
Love the fabrication work.
I agree, someday I want to transplant an LS1 in my '67. I keep looking for a cheap LS1 with the computer and trans but haven't had any luck yet.
I've seen a few of us LS1Tech peeps here. Not many, but a few of us are around.
That set up looks awesome Scotty!!
jakejake66 Mar 18th, 06, 11:14 PM Nice ride!!Hate to see you in my mirror or that mean turbo whine coming up on me......What size rims and tires DO you have mini tubs?
thanks
JodysTransmissions Mar 18th, 06, 11:47 PM I was wondering what size tires and wheels too, 18x10 & 18x8?. What side mirrows are on her? Nice ride. This picture looks great, http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/nitrorocket/_DSC0085.jpg
scotty Mar 19th, 06, 1:24 AM The wheels are only 17x11 for a 315/35/17 drag radial. When I bought the wheels 7 years ago, a 315 drag radial was the largest there was! They fit inside the factory wheel well.
The mirrors are original.

What's your backspacing on the 11" wheels?
davido Mar 23rd, 06, 3:51 AM I'm curious on that backspacing also. Thanks.
645spd Mar 23rd, 06, 12:29 PM Awesome job. I can see many hours put into that.
I'd love to hear it! Thanks for sharing the pictures
scotty Mar 23rd, 06, 1:42 PM Thanks for all the compliments. The rear wheels have need 6 1/8" backspace to fit. I have about 1/4" of clearence per side. It is TIGHT!
KottonmouthKing Mar 29th, 06, 3:38 PM How does that blowoff valve sound with twin turbos? Prolly sounds like the brakes on a big rig...love it
jakejake66 Mar 29th, 06, 7:16 PM That is one BAD ASS chevelle, thanks for the inspiration!
scotty Mar 29th, 06, 8:16 PM Thanks guys!
The blow off valve is very audible when you quickly let off the gas. Sounds really neat.
psi3000 Mar 29th, 06, 11:33 PM Nice!! What kind of rear wheels do you have on the back? What are the dimensions?
scotty Mar 30th, 06, 1:20 PM The rear wheels are Centerline Pintail in 17" x 11"
TT402LS1 Apr 2nd, 06, 1:09 PM Hey Scotty! Where did you mount your coils? I like the look of the clean valve covers!
maddboost Apr 2nd, 06, 4:12 PM How exactly did you go about mounting the motor in there? Did you have custom motor mounts made?
What size turbos are those? And how much boost are you running?
scotty Apr 2nd, 06, 9:04 PM I made everything on this setup myself. Including the motor mounts. The aftermarkets are either a real weak design, or do not mount the motor low enough in the chassis to keep the motor lined up properly.
I am running 60-1 hi-fi turbos with 15 psi right now.
kst8engineer Apr 3rd, 06, 12:26 AM Do you have more pics and/or a story of the buildup somewhere?
Thanks
scotty Apr 3rd, 06, 5:51 PM If you do a search, I have a good amount of pics out there. I was thinking of one day putting together a story. It would be a good one, because I built this whole twin turbo engine setup dirt cheap.
bochnak Apr 4th, 06, 4:04 PM Scotty, define cheap. Who wouldn't want your setup if it were cheap? Looks great....keep the pics coming.
-Matt
scotty Apr 4th, 06, 6:03 PM Cheap meaning It costs less then all the new "crate" engines. I built this entire setup for $12K. That included new gears, stall change, and tuning software! The new 572" crate motor is like $14K with no fuel injection! Probably gest 6 mpg too!
I say $12K is dirt cheap for an entire 1000hp twin turbo setup and LS1 motor. Others may disagree.
bochnak Apr 4th, 06, 6:57 PM Much cheaper than Gale Banks. Ever look into the price for that setup?
pist0lpete Apr 4th, 06, 10:27 PM Thats not a bad price at all. Of course it probably helps that you are a great fabricator and damn good welder haha.
scotty Apr 4th, 06, 10:33 PM Yup, That price was for everything! Complete used ls1 and pcm, all stainless 321 tubing, turbos, billet rods, everything. I am really happy with the setup. Makes completely insane power. The wierd thing is that I can just push a button on my dash and turn the power as high as I want! That is cool!
stealth71 Apr 5th, 06, 7:32 PM What is the frame coated with? Is it painted or powder coated? I've said it before, but once again I'm jealous.
Mike
scotty Apr 6th, 06, 10:42 AM I painted the frame gloss black with PPG. Has been holding up real well for a summer car that never sees rain!
