My 66 has rusted out completely where the windshield meets the cowl. Part of the dash and the entire lower window seal is rusted completely away.

I found this panel "kit" and was wondering whether it should cover the areas I have missing.

I put one of those in before and it was a big pain, but looks nice now. I didn't have to do anything to the dash except cut it away from the windshield track. The track is spot welded to a piece of metal directly under it. Mine was OK and all I had to do was replace the track. It is completely covered by the track so even if you had to patch yours, the new track would cover it up. I just drilled some holes about every 6" in the new track and spot welded it back to the underlaying metal. Then slip the dash back in place and spot welded it to the new track.

It's is a toughy, be sure you have it lined up right or the post covers won 't sit right. Not impossible, but lotta work. I looked at my Chevelle trying to figure out what was going to be the biggest job to do and it was this track, so I did that first before anything else. I ams ure there are worse things I could have faced like quarter skins, but mine were OK.

Then when I pulled the gas tank to lift the body off, found someone had fibreglassed the trunk and it all stuck to the top of the tank. Needless to say part of the trunk came down with the tank LOL. Now I have another big job to do.

Good luck.

Thanks alot. Didn't realize the track was a separate piece just tack welded to the rest. I'm sure it'll be a pain but it sure beats having to cut the whole thing out and weld a solid bead all the way across.

Good luck with that tank issue. Definitely doesn't sound fun.

Not looking to hijack your thread, but curious about the connection to the top of dash.
I have a '65 and am currently contemplating doing this work to my car.
Just wondering, does a '65 attach the same way? It appears that on my '65, the windshield channel is part of my dash. One piece of sheetmetal.
Anyone know if the windshield channel is seperate or integral with the dash on a '65?

sorry this thread is old, you may be done by now. I just got a windshield channel & dash "reinforcement" piece for my 67. The reinforcement piece says 64-67 right on it. Looks like a64-65 would go together the same way, two pieces.
