I'm in the process of beefing up the rear suspension even more in my 66 El Camino that already corners incredibly well. I have Stock upper control arms, boxed factory lowers with a 1" sway bar, along with Hotchkis 1" drop springs, performance shocks and they are all hooked to a Dana 60. Does anyone have any information on Trailing Arm Braces? They hook the front part of the upper control arm to the front of the lower control arms. It is supposed to keep all flex out, will that be noticeable?
There are also braces that locate the front of the upper control arms to that crossmember above the rear end, do these work well either?
Only one type of brace can be used, is one better than the other?
All information is appreciated!
Thanks

I've seen these braces on e-bay now and then, a few of the venders also carry them.....around $85 bucks or so, I believe they were part of the F41 package starting in the '69 model year. The other braces you mentioned were used in the '64-'67 models..... both did the same thing, and I believe bolted up at the same location...front bolts of the upper & lower control arms. I have a F41 option in my '68 with new rubber bushings, boxed lowers and traction bars, car is still up for the winter so I can't tell you if my wheel-hopping is gone or not. SOON I HOPE..:beers:

Keep checking ebay for those braces,it took a while but I finally found a set for around 30 plus shipping. These are fairly common on ebay as they weren't just used with the f41 option,The braces were part of the HD suspension package too.So some station waqon and 4 dr cars with the towing or trailering package got them also.So it wasn't just a performance piece but they were added cause they worked.Oldsmobile had the F41 suspension (not sure what Olds designation was) before Chevy so other GM divisions A-bodies are donors for us finding them for sale or if your lucky, the boneyard.
As far as whether you would notice any handling improvement I doubt you would notice the improvement although I'm sure they help. When I added them to my suspension the boxed arms and sway bar were already done so when I installed them it was a simple A-B comparison. I didn't notice any change but that don't mean they didn't improve anything.Perhaps I just didn't drive it hard enough to notice anything.

They help keep the flex out of the frame and upper crossmember induced by the rear suspension. While they won't likely create any improvement you can feel, it will make the car handle more consistantly by eliminating this frame flex. They are particularly helpful in spreading the stress imposed by hard acceleration and greatly lessen the possibility of breaking a lower front control arm mount away from the frame (which is exactly why GM phased them in on many A-body cars in 1964 and why they included them in higher powered and manual shift cars thereafter).
