: What should a good paint job cost?
phishfud Nov 9th, 01, 1:40 PM Ok. my 72 is ready for paint. there is no rust at all, and everything is removed(interior, headliner, glass, bumpers, etc.). I have sanded it down so all the shop has to do is a final once over. Obviously the doors and fenders have to come back off to do the jams correctly. All bolts were replaced during the resto, so they wont have to wrestle with rusty bolts. With all this in mind, what am i looking at to paint it hugger orange? just a good ball park would do. i just want to know what others have paid. anyone reccommend a good shop in pittsburgh to do it? thanks all.

vettefella Nov 9th, 01, 2:27 PM Prices will vary several hundred dollars; however, expect to pay 4-5K. No reflection on your abilities, but you having sanded the car will probably not affect the price. Since the shop will be the one to back the warranty, they will want to do it all from the bottom up.
chevellegal Nov 10th, 01, 7:10 PM That sounds about right. We have been looking for estimates ourselves. The last estimate we got here in the Atlanta area was from 5-7K. Good luck! (I'm still saving!!)
ChaosMalibu Nov 11th, 01, 6:43 AM The US is expensive...
In here, I am planning on painting my car soon, and the highest estimate i got was $1.5K..
That $1.5K includes removing rust, fixing some body damage and paint.
Now I can do my car for $1K but it would be only 1 paint coat.. The
$1.5K offer is for Primer, 3 coats of paint, and clear coat on top of all that...
You should have your cars painted over here guys.. That would save you a lot of money http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

MalibuDreamer Nov 11th, 01, 6:47 PM Hey Chaos - i was just reading the last post about how hard it is to import an old car into Isreal, but for that price, is there any way I could request a visitors pass http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
Mr. D Nov 12th, 01, 2:25 PM I am going to dissagree a bit.
If you go to someone who has a rep/name for themselves established, it will cost as stated above.
But, if you do some shopping, you can have a complete done, two stage good paint (dupont or PPG) on a rust free car for under $3,000. Especially since you took everything off and basically stripped the paint. This saves the body guy a ton of time.
IF you want sikkens or house of color, expect to pay much more.
Shop around. Good luck. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
