Hello everyone,

I am getting ready to fire up my chevelle for the first time today, I have performed all the necessary pre fire up steps, The last thing I am trying to do is get fuel to the pump, it is a new tank sender and line, I put 5 gal of gas in the tank took off the line from the pump smell gas taste gas but nothing comes out I tried to pressurize the tank with air and push it out no luck, Removed the line from the sending unit no gas,, suck on the hose (yuck) trying to get gas out none,,, blow into the line no bubbles ? Not sure what to do I don’t want to put more gas in the tank incase I have to drop it...and I want to have the gas at the pump because I am firing the fresh motor and I have to break in the cam, watch the oil pressure, temp gauge, coolant level etc. I cant be pouring gas in the carb to keep it running.. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT I GETTING ANXIOUS TO FIRE THIS BABY UP
Thanks

5 Gal's should be plenty for the pick-up. Sounds like you have an obstruction in the sender tube or you may have hooked the line up to the vent tube. I'm not sure how its set up on a 67. I'd drop the tank and correct this situation before I did anything else. If you have to, I don't recommend this, you could use a gas can to feed your engine. Put your fuel line in the can instead of your tank, until you figured out what was wrong.

I was thinking the same thing with the external can but I dont want to do that either, There is no restriction in the line I can blow or suck with no problem its just not picking up the gas, I was hoping I not to drop the tank again, I hang a while incase someone else has an idea thanks for getting back to me so soon

Sounds like you have it hooked up to the vent line. Make sure you have the line on the right connection on the tank. It's an easy one to miss.

Maybe try pulling the line from the carb pull the rotor and crank it over see if you get any gas. If not sounds as Hal says your hooked up to the vent tube.

Just be carefull and by all means don't be pouring gasoline into the carb, it's WAY TOO DANGERIOUS !
(I know you probably wouldn't have anyway but I know because I got myself on fire one time doing it) - VERY scary.

I would try putting more gas in the tank first.

Impossible to hook it up to the vent line 67 vent is not mounted on the pick up / sender it is on the side of the tank, Help just arrive another set of ears, but please dont stop giving sugestions I have moved on to other things I will save the gas for last... Thanks

the way i read your post, it sounds like you just replaced the pickup/sender in the tank. like it was said above, 5 gallons is plenty. when you installed the pickup, did you make sure the sock is pointing towards the bottom of the tank? just a thought, and its easy to verify.

good luck,

mike

Mike you are so right.... For *****s and giggles I check my gas gauge and it was pegged past full :o I either had a pinched wire or my sender was in upside down.....well after removing the sending unit and reinstalling it properly :o problem solved  Thanks everyone for your help :beers:
