Does anyone know where I can get the fuel tank vent for my 69? If not does anyone know the part number or have a picture of one?

Thanks

Mike

Are you talking about the white plastic vent that plugs into the rubber hose on the front of the tank?

If so, The Parts Place carries them, new item, actually. They are $24.95 I believe.

Thank you for the help. They had it in stock $29. I should have it later this week. :D

I should have waited.

I was told that there is a bracket that holds the vent to the frame and it is not repro'ed. Black&Red -- Do your vents have the brackets? If so I may be interested.

Thanks,

Mike

I will have to check, but your car should already have the bracket on it holding the two hoses. My experience has been the bracket was there with or without the vent restrictor. For some reason some cars got only the hoses, others got hoses and restrictor. I have seen this on either big block or small block cars.....my original car had just the hoses...I put a restrictor on as per the assembly manual, and it DEFINATELY stopped the fuel surge and fumes....worked as it was supposed to...and did not splash fuel on the exhaust.

My previous 69 SS convert did not have the vent, but it had been through the mill, so I was never sure if someone had removed it or if it had never had one. My current ride is pretty original, and it has no vent either. Bracket and vent hoses are there, but no plastic vent. So I would say that black&redss is correct about some cars having them and some cars not having them.

My convertible had the hoses pluged with bolts. Not sure of the complete history of the car, but could the factory have blocked hoses with bolts? If a car just got hoses -- were they just open?

Mike.....DO NOT Plug thoses hoses!...Could possibly colapse the tank!!! For whatever reason GM installed the vents on some cars...not on others...Why?...no one seems to know. My car was a Atlanta built 03B original. There was no evidence of the vent being in there or have fallen out...also have seen some with just the hoses and a piece of foam in each hose...this restrictor also had a piece of the same foam in it...probably to absorb fumes gas etc. I know of two original cars right now ...one a Malibu small block....has vent restrictor, other SS big block, no restrictor...just hoses......page me 313-280-2101...if you would like to talk.....

Mike, I think I have the strap/bracket...need to look for it. One more thing on why you should not block off those hoses, that tank is vented through those hoses also. The tank has a non -vented gas cap........

Thanks for looking. No I would not plug the hoses as is, but that is how the car was when I got it. I was thinking of adding a vented cap, but now that I've ordered the vent from the parts place I will use it. Let me know how you make out with the bracket search -- it would be great if you had one available.
