Looking at the broken torsion rod in my trunk and comparing it to the good one, they appear inter-changeable. If I use the same diameter rod and bend it to match the good one, then heat treat and oil bath, do you think this would provide enough torsion? Thanks for the thoughts.

With the heat treating and oil bath it work well should hold up for you.
