: Correct fuel pump?

In trying to take my car (and engine) as close as possible to stock, so I ordered a fuel pump for a 1970 chevelle with a 350 and A/c.

When I picked up the pump that I ordered, the round gold anodized portion of the pump is about 3x the length of the old one that was on the engine (the engine is not the original) and it has an extra spot to hook up another hose.

Can anybody educate me as to why the pump is bigger and where the extra spot is supposed to hook up to?

Thanks,
Chris

The fitting is for a return line. This pump returns fuel to the tank when not pumping it to the carb as a way of pressure regulation. Pumps without the fitting equalize pressure internally. Your car should have the metal return line going back to the tank. It will be next to the supply line, usually smaller in diameter. They are usually plugged in some way when using the other style pump. If it has been left open you may want to clean it out first.

I will check over the fuel lines, I don't remember a second one, but then I can also say that I have never really looked for one either.

The engine in it is the correct casting number for the car but the casting date is late 1972.

Hopefully the line is still there and it will just be a matter of hooking it up (and making sure its cleaned out).

Thanks for the reply and info.
