Hi there! This is my first post.
I'm restoring a '72 Heavy Chevy. It has the '70 optional 3-spoke black Cushion Grip steering wheel. After restoring the upper portion of the (standard style) steering column I installed a new horn contact onto the steering wheel (mounted with 3 screws into the steering wheel itself) and new center horn cap. However, now there is no "give" or flexibility to push the center horn cap in order to activate the horn - the entire assembly is rock solid. The horn contact has circumferential protruding metal "tabs" to hold the center cap on with (the center cap has a matching solid metal ring on its backside to mate with the protruding ring of tabs on the horn contact).
My understanding is that the "flexibility" to push the horn assembly, in order to activate the horn, is built into the horn contact assembly itself.

What am I doing wrong? Is the new horn contact itself faulty-not enough give or flexibility? Am I installing the center cap onto the horn contact incorrectly?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
